The Wonderful Scripture of Resolving Karmic Enmities Across Three Lifetimes

Judging from its textual content, this scripture is believed to have been written by Taoist priests during the Tang and Song dynasties.
It consists of one scroll and is included in the Original Text Category of the Cavern Mysterious Section in the Taoist Canon.
The scripture records that the Heavenly Venerable Who Responds to Sounds to Save the Suffering expounded the orthodox and profound Taoist doctrines to King Jingfan, his queens, concubines, officials, and common subjects.
The queen posed a question: “Now the king is advanced in years, yet his offspring either miscarry or die at an early age. We know not what sins from past or present lives have brought about such misfortune?”
The Heavenly Venerable answered: “This is karmic retribution for the enmities incurred by careless abortions in past lives.”
He further instructed that:
- Reciting this scripture three times a day with incense can eliminate one’s own karmic enmities;
- Reciting it seven times can enable the wronged spirits from past lives to be reborn into wealthy and noble families;
- Reciting it a hundred times can resolve all karmic enmities for the entire population of a kingdom.
It is for this reason that the scripture is named The Wonderful Scripture of Resolving Karmic Enmities.
