The Tai Shang Shuo Li Yi Can Wang Miao Jing 太上说利益蚕王妙经

The author and the era of its compilation are unknown.

It is included in the Taoist Canon, under the category of "Original Texts" in the Cave Mysterium Division.

The scripture claims that when the Numinous Treasure Heavenly Venerable saw that the people of the world experienced uneven joys and sorrows and lacked clothing to wear, he dispatched the Perfected One of Mysterious Name to incarnate as a silkworm moth. The moth spat out silk and taught humans to weave silk into clothes to relieve all beings from hunger and cold. All living beings should carefully protect and care for silkworm moths and must not treat them with contempt or disrespect. Honoring silkworm moths will bring great wealth and nobility, with the promise that “the more you raise, the more you gain; even a small number of silkworms will yield abundant harvests”. A silkworm deity talisman is attached at the end of the text.
