The Taishang Feibu Wuxing Jing 太上飞步五星经

The Taishang Feibu Wuxing Jing 太上飞步五星经

Paul Peng
The Supreme Scripture on Flying Steps to the Five Planets (Taishang Feibu Wuxing Jing), author unknown. It seems to have been compiled during the Tang and Song dynasties.

It consists of one scroll and is included in the Benwen Lei (Original Text Category) of the Dongshen Bu (Divine Grotto Section) of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

The scripture lists the titles of the Five Planets (Water, Wood, Fire, Metal, and Earth), the Five Planet Consorts, and the Nine Star Lords of the Big Dipper. It also details the method of "treading the steps to the Five Planets" (buta wuxing).

This method includes arranging star diagrams, contemplating while holding one’s breath, calling out the names of deities, performing the "step-walking on the Big Dipper" ritual (bugang tadu), and contemplating the "Twenty-Four Deities of the Three Eights Scenes" (sanba jing ershisishi), among other steps.

It is stated that by ascending to the Five Planets in sequence through this method, one can ascend to immortality.

At the end of the text, there are additional Taoist techniques such as "purifying corpse filth" (xiaolian shihui) and "repenting sins to pray for blessing" (chanzui qirang).
