Tang Fubi was a native of Jiading (now part of Shanghai) in the late Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Shaogu.

As the 14th-generation Successor Master of the Longmen School, he conducted himself with dignity and solemnity, was generous and benevolent, and possessed noble Taoist virtues.

He built altars to worship the Big Dipper, attracting Taoist companions from all places. He founded Weizhong Hall, initiated the Qianyi School, and assisted in the reconstruction of the Taizu Shuai Main Hall on Donglin Mountain in Huzhou.

He recited The Supreme Jade Emperor's Original Deeds Scripture unceasingly on a daily basis, and presided over altar affairs in an orderly manner, which was hailed as a grand occasion in the Jiangnan region at that time.
