Tang Zixia was a native of Zhejiang during the late Northern Song Dynasty.

As recorded in Gazetteer of Zhejiang (Zhejiang Tongzhi): During the Zhenghe era of Emperor Huizong, he became a Taoist priest and was officially registered at Dongxiao Palace in Lin'an County.
Tang Zixia had a passion for reading and devoted himself to the pursuit of Taoist doctrines. He once compiled Record of the True Mirror of Dadi Cave Heaven (Dadong Dongtian Zhenjing Lu), which won high praise from Emperor Huizong. He was then appointed to the position of Jintan Lang (a Taoist official title) and took charge of Dongxiao Palace.

Later, when war broke out, Tang Zixia stayed to defend the palace gate and was eventually killed.
