The Triad Officials Confession Liturgy 太上灵宝三元三官忏

Anonymous author. Judging from the textual content, it was roughly compiled between the Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in The Daozang (Taoist Canon), under the Dongxuan Section, Ritual Category.

The work is divided into three parts: Shangyuan Heavenly Official Repentance Ritual for Atoning Sins, Zhongyuan Earthly Official Repentance Ritual for Atoning Sins, and Xiayuan Water Official Repentance Ritual for Atoning Sins, all falsely attributed to Yuanshi Tianzun (Jade Pure Heavenly Worthy) as the speaker.

It states that all sentient beings, living in the mortal world amid kalpas, have long been stained with numerous karmic sins arising from the three poisons (greed, anger, ignorance) and six desires. Only by inviting eminent Taoist priests to establish a ritual altar, light lamps and burn incense, and wholeheartedly pay homage to the honorific titles of 120 Heavenly Worthies of Shangyuan, 120 Heavenly Worthies of Zhongyuan, and 120 Heavenly Worthies of Xiayuan listed in this work, while repenting for all sins, can one atone for transgressions, eliminate guilt, and pray for forgiveness and deliverance from disasters.

This Taoist ritual is presumably derived from the early Wudoumi Dao (Five Pecks of Rice Taoism) practice of using "Three Officials' Handwritten Petitions" to confess sins and cure illnesses for people.

Another text titled Yuanshi Tianzun Says the Scripture of the Three Officials' Precious Titles is included in The Daozang, with content roughly similar to this work.
