The Tripartite Canons Liturgical Calendar FULL NAME IS
Authored by Zhang Wanfu, a Taoist priest of Taiqing Guan in the
the Tang Dynasty.
In one volume, it is included in the Zhengyi Section of
The Daozang.
There is a preface written by the author at the beginning of the scroll, stating that when Taoist priests leave secular life to receive the Taoist scriptures, precepts and talismans, they must select auspicious days for the transmission of different Cavern scriptures and methods, each with specific designated days and hours that shall not be confused or indiscriminately used. Hence he compiled this text for the instruction of his disciples. The book is divided into nine sections, compiling almanacs for choosing auspicious days in the transmission of various scriptures, precepts and talismans, and also elaborating on the oath tokens required for the scripture transmission ceremony.
The text concludes with a criticism of contemporaries who transmitted scriptures without abiding by the prescribed rules, and its canonical disciplinary norms are aligned with the ritual tradition preserved in
The Dongshen Section.
