Various Arts Category
It is the ninth category among the Twelve Categories in the classification system of Taoist scriptures. Taoist Doctrine Essentials·Meaning of the Ten Parts interprets "Zhong" (various) as numerous, and "Shu" (arts) as the Dao, stating that "there are many paths for cultivation, all leading to the initial Dao of truth."

Thus, it states: "Various Arts refer to practices such as refining cinnabar and smelting stones, transforming form and hiding shadows."
Works in this category are mostly those describing various techniques including alchemy, invisibility, Yin-Yang theory, the Five Elements, transformation, divination, medicinal remedies, and health preservation.
