The Wang Bao 王褒

Wang Bao (36 BC–?) was a native of Xiangping in Fanyang (present-day Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province) during the Jianzhao period of the Western Han Dynasty.

Styled Zideng and Ziyuan, he was granted the title of True Person of Purity and Emptiness.

Biographies of Yan Zhu, Wuqiu, Zhufu, Xu Yan, Zhong, Wang, and Jia records that he was born into an official family. He first entered Mount Hua and later secluded himself in Mount Yangluo, with his sincere devotion moving the divine. It is said that the Lady of the South Pole and the True Person of Xicheng descended to teach him 31 volumes of Taoist scriptures, including The Supreme Precious Text, The Hidden Book of the Eight Elements, and The Great Cavern True Scripture. Later, immortals imparted to him the secret essentials of Taoist methods, conferred upon him the title of True Person of Supreme Purity and Emptiness, and he was put in charge of the Three Yuans and Four Divisions of the Heavenly Kings, governing the cave heaven of Mount Wangwu.
