The Wang Daocheng 王道成

The Wang Daocheng 王道成

Paul Peng
Wang Daocheng was a native of Henan in the mid-Ming Dynasty. During the Chenghua reign period, he traveled and resided in a Taoist temple among the Kongtong Mountains in Pingliang, where he practiced quiet cultivation for over 40 years.

He was well-versed in the "Huangbai Art" (a traditional alchemical practice focused on refining gold and cinnabar, often associated with immortality pursuits). He could drink wine without getting drunk and walk as fast as flying.

During the Hongzhi reign period, he renovated the Sanqing Hall (a hall dedicated to the Three Pure Ones, core deities in Taoism). In the 7th year of the Zhengde reign (1512), he further renovated the Yuhuang Pavilion (a pavilion dedicated to the Jade Emperor).

Zhang Gong, the "Zongzhi" (a senior military and administrative official in the Ming Dynasty), treated him as a mentor and bestowed upon him the title "Wang Quanzhen" (Quanzhen meaning "Complete Perfection," a reference to the influential Quanzhen School of Taoism).

Details of his deeds can be found in Records of Kongtong Mountains.
