Wang Daoqing (1192–1276)

Wang Daoqing was a native of Linjin in Hezhong (now Puxian County, Shanxi Province) during the Jin and Yuan dynasties. His courtesy name was Zhengzhi.

According to the Stele of the Shrine to Mr. Xizhen by Yao Sui: At the age of 17, Wang Daoqing paid respects to Li Chongxu at Danyang Nunnery and became his disciple. He resided there for 19 years; after Li Chongxu passed away from illness, Wang Daoqing moved to Longyang Taoist Temple in Dexing. Three years later, he returned to live at Danyang Taoist Temple (formerly Danyang Nunnery).

People in Bianjing (an important historical city in ancient China, present-day Kaifeng, Henan Province) highly admired his knowledge and learning, and respected him as a teacher. Wang Daoqing was skilled at composing poems and proficient in mounting calligraphy works and paintings; his insights and experiences were not confined to the Taoist community alone.

In the 13th year of the Zhiyuan era (1276), he passed away peacefully without illness at the age of 85. He was posthumously awarded the title "Great Master Xizhen Chunsu" (meaning "the pure and simple master of rare truth").
