Wang Daoyi was a Taoist priest of Longhu Mountain at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. Later, he studied under the True Person Zhang Shouqing of Mount Wudang, and then went to Mount Wuyi to learn Taoist arts from Jin Pengtou (Golden Bald Head).

He possessed Taoist supernatural powers: when expelling evil spirits to cure illnesses, or praying for rain or clear weather, all his deeds were efficacious.

Later, he built a hermitage at Jinchuan Peak (Golden Boat Peak).
