The Wang Fengxian 王奉仙
Paul PengShare
Wang Fengxian (838-885) was a native of Dangtu County in Xuanzhou (now part of Anhui Province) during the Tang Dynasty.
His family was poor in his early years. When he was young, he encountered an immortal who taught him the technique of preserving one’s youthful appearance. With his fair complexion and bright eyes, he looked like a celestial being, and people in the Jiangzuo region (the area south of the Yangtze River) called him "Guanyin" (Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion).

During the Xiantong era (860-874), he traveled around the Huaihe River and Zhejiang regions. Many people followed him to study, and he often instructed his disciples with "the principles of loyalty, filial piety, integrity and uprightness, the teachings of purity, tranquility and frugality, and the essentials of cultivating one’s moral character and practicing in seclusion." Later, he retired to live in seclusion on Dongting Mountain.
In the first year of the Guangqi era (885), he moved to Qianqing Mountain in Hangzhou and passed away without illness at the age of 48.
