The Wang Qizhen 王契真

Paul Peng
Wang Qizhen lived in the late Northern Song Dynasty. He studied under Ning Quanzhen, from whom he received the transmission of the Great Lingbao Method. He styled himself a "Disciple of the Three Caverns of Shangqing" and also used the title "Successor Master in Charge of Teachings." Belonging to the Lingbao Donghua Sect, he was the biological younger brother of Wang Maoduan (known as "Wang Lingbao"), and people of his time called him "Xiao Lingbao" (Little Lingbao).

He compiled The Great Method of Shangqing Lingbao in sixty-six volumes, which collects content related to cultivation practices, Taoist rituals (zhaijiao), and various esoteric arts. It is a comprehensive masterpiece that embodies the Taoist doctrines and methods of the Lingbao Sect.
