Wang Shouqian was a native of Tangyi in Bozhou (now part of Shandong Province) during the Jin Dynasty, and his courtesy name was Shouyi.

His family had been farmers for generations, and through their efforts, they accumulated substantial wealth, becoming a prominent family in the local area.
When he heard that the Taiyi Sect (a Taoist school) used talismans to help the world and relieve people from hardships, he deeply admired this true Taoist tradition. Traveling hundreds of miles, he sought to become a disciple of the sect.

Every year, after covering his family’s living expenses, he donated all the remaining wealth to support the incense offerings of Taoist temples. He lived to the age of seventy-six and was awarded the imperial title "Zhenren of Embracing the Dao with Void and Tranquility" (Tidao Xuji Zhenren).

His son, Wang Zhichong, became the third-generation master-transmitter of the Taiyi Sect.
