Wang Sunzhi lived during the reign of Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty and went by the literary name Qizhenzi (Master Who Dwells in Truth).
He once expanded the Poem on Guarding the One (a work written by Cui Shaoxuan) into a detailed commentary titled The Mind-Mirror of the Mysterious Pearl.

In the 12th year of the Yuanhe era of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty (817 CE), he passed this work on to Zhangsun Zi, a woodcutter from Mount Wangwu. Subsequently, Zhangsun Zi made it widely available to the world.
