The Wang Weiyi 王惟一

The Wang Weiyi 王惟一

Paul Peng
Wang Weiyi was a native of Songjiang (now part of Shanghai) during the Dade period of the Yuan Dynasty. His courtesy name was Jingyang, and his literary name was Leiting Sanli (Retired Official of Thunder).

He encountered a True Person (a term for an accomplished Daoist adept) who taught him the cultivation methods of "Leiting... Kuan" (the character "窾" may be a variant or incomplete record, referring to a specific Thunder Magic technique) and "Xiantian Yiqi" (Primordial Qi of the Innate State). Later, he received enlightenment from Mo Yueding (a renowned Daoist master of Thunder Magic in the Yuan Dynasty) and thoroughly mastered the essential principles of Thunder Magic (Leifa, a major Daoist ritual tradition focusing on invoking thunder deities).

Subsequently, he authored Daofa Jingwei (Essentials of Daoist Rituals) and Xinchuan Lu (Record of Heart-to-Heart Transmission) – these two works were compiled together into Daofa Xinchuan (Heart-to-Heart Transmission of Daoist Rituals). In addition, he wrote Mingdao Pian (Essay on Clarifying the Dao), which was widely circulated in the world.
