The Wang Xuanzhen 王玄真

Wang Xuanzhen was a native of Suzhou during the Yuan Dynasty. His courtesy name was Wuwei, and his literary name was Tixuan.

As recorded in Volume 211 of Daofa Huiyuan (Compendium of Taoist Methods): In his youth, he admired Huang-Lao thought (a school of thought combining the teachings of Huangdi and Laozi, foundational to Taoism). He studied under Huang Dachi and lived in seclusion to practice Taoist cultivation in Nanshan (South Mountain) by West Lake in Qiantang (present-day Hangzhou).

Over more than a decade, he maintained rigorous ascetic practices and cultivated his conduct, mastering the Taoist art of "sacrifice and refinement" (a ritual practice involving spiritual cultivation through ceremonial offerings and inner refinement).

He was skilled in composing poems and ci (a classical Chinese poetic form), and his works—including the poetic texts Riyong Ming (Inscription on Daily Practice) and Xingming Hunrong Ge (Song of the Integration of Nature and Life)—have been handed down to later generations.
