Wang Xuanzong (631–686)
Wang Xuanzong was a native of Linyi in Langya (a historical region in present-day Shandong Province) during the early Tang Dynasty.
His courtesy name was Chengzhen, and his literary name was Mr. Taihe.

After the fall of the Chen Dynasty (557–589), he crossed the Yangtze River and settled in Pingyi (now Dali County, Shaanxi Province).
Before long, he moved to Jiangdu (now Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province). There, he sought out Taoist masters to learn the Dao, and his mastery of Taoist doctrines and practices grew increasingly profound. He eventually became well-known across the Jiangnan region (the area south of the Yangtze River).
