The Wang Yingjin 王应瑾

Wang Yingjin was a native of Qiantang during the Yuan and Ming dynasties. His courtesy name was Jingzhou. At the age of eighteen, he was ordained as a Taoist priest by Shen Rirui of Helin Palace, and later resided in Yanzhen Hall of Yousheng Temple in Hangzhou.

He thoroughly studied Taoist teachings and achieved a level surpassing his peers. The supervisor of the hall valued him highly and appointed him to manage the treasury affairs. Later, he was promoted to oversee the temple's affairs, and subsequently became a respected elder in the Taoist community. In the third year of the Hongwu era (1370), the 42nd Celestial Master bestowed upon him the titles "Exalted Scholar of the Teaching" and "Dharma Master of Profound Insight, True Seclusion, and Pure Unity," appointing him as the abbot of Xuanmiao Temple and concurrently placing him in charge of all temples and palaces in the prefecture. In the sixth year of the Hongwu era (1373), the succeeding Celestial Master added the titles "Dharma Master of Propagating the Dao in the Eastern Flower and Pure Unity," "True Scholar of the Teaching," and "Master Zhenbai," appointing him as the abbot of Longxiang Palace while retaining his concurrent charge of all local temples and palaces.

Wang Yingjin possessed Taoist magical arts; he could summon thunder and bring rain as if responding to a call. Contemporary renowned Taoist masters such as Wang Panyin, He Dongxia, Deng Zigao, and Deng Zhongxiu all studied under him, consulting him on the essentials of Taoist rituals.

Wang Yingjin was extremely filial, serving his parents with devotion and treating his relatives generously. He also had a refined taste for befriending celebrities, maintaining close friendships with figures like Yang Lianfu, Zhang Boyu, and Yu Zizhong.
