Wang Yongzuo was a native of Anyi, Jiangxi during the Jiajing reign period of the Ming Dynasty.
He was a Taoist priest at Yuxian Guan (Yuxian Temple) on Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi.

During the Jiajing reign period, he followed Shao Yuanjie to the imperial court for an audience with the emperor. The emperor praised his loyalty, appointed him as the abbot of Yuanfu Gong (Yuanfu Palace), and bestowed upon him the "Bal Li Huangzhuang" (a royal manor covering an area of eight li, a traditional Chinese unit of distance).
