Wang Yuanhui lived during the Zhida reign period of the Yuan Dynasty (1308-1311). He adopted the literary names (hao) of "Yinweizi" and "Zhongnan Yinweizi" (Zhongnan refers to Mount Zhongnan, a mountain with deep ties to Taoist hermitage culture in ancient China).

He composed and annotated Commentary on The Supreme Old Lord's Sutra of Constant Purity and Tranquility (a key text in Taoism that expounds on the concepts of inner purity, tranquility, and alignment with the Dao).
