The Wang Zaixi 王仔昔
Paul PengShare
Wang Zaixi was a native of Hongzhou (present-day Nanchang, Jiangxi Province) during the reigns of Emperors Zhezong and Huizong of the Song Dynasty.
In his childhood, he studied Confucian classics. He claimed to have encountered Xu Xun, a Daoist immortal, who taught him The Hidden Book of the Great Cavern and the "Method of the Seven Origin Points of Huoluo" (a Daoist ritual technique). After that, he became a Daoist priest and traveled to famous mountains across the country.

In the 5th year of the Zhenghe era (1115), he was granted the title "Hermit Chongyin" by imperial edict. Later, because he cured the imperial concubines, he was further promoted to the title "Mr. Tongmiao" (Master of Penetrating Wonders) and ordered to reside in Shangqing Baoluan Palace as its abbot. He was repeatedly envied by Lin Lingsu, a Daoist practitioner favored by the emperor. Additionally, he offended eunuchs and was framed, imprisoned, and eventually died in jail.
