Wang Zhisu (1232-1309)

Wang Zhisu (1232-1309) was a native of Gaoya in the Jinshang region during the Yuan Dynasty. His original name was Wang Yi, and his Taoist title was Yizhen. During the Chunyou reign period (1241-1252), when wars and chaos broke out, he crossed the river north to Linfen and was adopted as a foster son by a family surnamed Liu.

He studied under Xu Laoxian (Immortal Xu the Elder) and changed his name to Zhisu. After his teacher passed away, he traveled to the Chunyang Palace on Jiufeng Mountain and built a thatched hut there to live in.

In the 17th year of the Zhiyuan reign period (1280), he renovated the nunnery (here referring to a small Taoist hermitage). In the 28th year of the Zhiyuan reign period (1291), when Zhenren Zhang (Immortal Zhang) succeeded to the leadership of the Taoist tradition, the palace was granted the official plaque "Xuanyi Guan" (Xuanyi Taoist Temple), and Wang Zhisu was appointed to supervise affairs at this temple.

He passed away in the 2nd year of the Zhida reign period (1309) at the age of 77.
