Wang Zongdan was a figure in the early Ming Dynasty.

In the early years of the Hongwu era, he was selected from the eminent Taoist priests of Chongxi Palace to serve as a ritual officiant at Shenle Guan (Temple of Divine Music), where he was responsible for sacrificial ceremonies.

During the Yongle era, he participated in the compilation of Yongle Dadian (The Yongle Encyclopedia). He was a "fangwai friend" (a friend beyond secular ties) with Xie Jinshen, a renowned scholar of that time.

He excelled at writing poetry and ci (a classical Chinese poetic form). His poetry collection Lanyun Gao (Manuscripts of the Lazy Cloud) was published and circulated in the world.
