Wei Qi was a native of Mount Penglai in Sichuan during the reign of Emperor Wuzong of the Yuan Dynasty.
He adopted the literary name "Zhongyangzi" (Master of Central Yang). In the third year of the Zhida reign (1311), he annotated The Jade Pure Boundless Supreme True Script: The Lv (Lü) Great Cavern Immortal Scripture in ten volumes and presented it to the imperial court.

This work integrates the core tenets of the Three Teachings (Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism). It provides explanations sentence by sentence, extensively drawing on the theories of Confucianism and Buddhism, with the principles of the I Ching (Classic of Changes) as its foundation, supplemented by alchemical formulas, Chan (Zen) insights, and the philosophical theories of Taoism (focused on the nature of the mind and principles of the universe).
