The Wei Zhending 卫真定

Wei Zhending (?–1645) was a native of Shimen, Jiaxing (now part of Zhejiang Province) during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

His courtesy name was Yuanzai, and his literary name was Pingyangzi.

As recorded in Volume 1 of Jingai Xindeng (The Golden Canopy and the Lamp of the Heart), his ancestors originally lived in Huating. During the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, Mr. Zhengjie (a title honoring his integrity) founded the Baishe Academy by Shijingtang, after which the family settled in Shimen.

Wei Zhending was naturally slow-witted, but he was extremely filial.

When he grew up, he yearned for a life of spiritual practice beyond secular affairs. He studied under Shen Jingyuan, and later followed his teacher to Nangong. There, he was given the name "Zhending" and taught the core tenets of Taoism. From then on, he practiced Taoism with greater diligence, showing no sign of weariness.

He passed away in October of the second year of the Shunzhi reign (1645).

He was recognized as the sixth-generation "Grand Master" of the Longmen School of Taoism.
