The Wu Yuanzhao 武元照

Wu Yuanzhao (?-1111)

Wu Yuanzhao was a native of Xiaoshan, Kuaiji (now part of Zhejiang Province) during the Song Dynasty.
He claimed that after a dream, a celestial being descended and summoned him, bestowing upon him The Law of the Great Cavern of the Numinous Treasure (a core scripture of the Lingbao Sect of Daoism) as well as the Seal of the True Person of Wind Harmony, conferred by the Great Dharma Master of the Great Cavern. He was ordered to cure illnesses and dispel disasters for the people.

From then on, he lived alone in a quiet chamber, practicing internal Daoist cultivation. On a daily basis, he treated people’s illnesses using talisman-charged water, and his treatments were quite effective—his reputation became renowned across the local regions and prefectures.
He passed away due to illness in the 11th year of the Shaoxing era of Emperor Gaozong’s reign.
