The Xia Yanwen 夏彦文
Paul PengShare
Xia Yanwen was a native of Jincheng during the Yuan Dynasty, which is now Chengdu City, Sichuan Province.
He studied under Chen Zhixu as a disciple, and Chen imparted to him the essential doctrines of the "Internal and External Elixir Studies" (a core system of Taoist alchemy—"Internal Elixir" focuses on cultivating vital energy within the human body, while "External Elixir" historically refers to refining minerals and herbs to create elixirs). Xia Yanwen was also conferred the literary name (hao) "Deyangzi".

In addition, he was proficient in medicine, divination, and physiognomy (the art of judging character or predicting fortune from facial features), and his skills in these fields were highly effective and accurate.
