The Xiao Qian Mie Zui Jing 太上救苦天尊说消愆灭罪经

The author of this scripture is unknown.

Judging from its wording and content, it was presumably composed by Taoist practitioners during the Tang and Song dynasties.

It is included in the Text Category of the Cave Mysterious Section of the Daoist Canon.

The scripture states that all living beings in the world are subject to various karmic retributions. Those who commit the ten evils, five rebellions, show disrespect to their parents, violate fasts, or kill living beings during their lifetimes will all fall into hell after death and endure suffering day and night.

The Supreme Lord of Saving the Suffering tells all beings that after the passing of their parents and relatives, they should establish a Taoist ritual site, perform fasts and cultivate the Dao, distribute wealth, and accumulate merits for the ten great ghost kings and demons of the underworld, such as King Yama and the Lord of Mount Tai. By doing so, they can eliminate karmic sins, enable the deceased souls to be reborn into a blessed realm naturally, and spare them from the torments of hell.
