The Xiao Quanyou 萧全佑

The Xiao Quanyou 萧全佑

Paul Peng
Xiao Quanyou was a native of Mingshui (now part of Hebei Province) during the Jin and Yuan Dynasties.

Originally surnamed Li, he served as the 6th Patriarch of the Taiyi Dao (Great Unity Dao).

His father, Dao Yuan, ceased handling family affairs at the age of fifty and received the Taoist ordination certificate from "Taiyi Weng" (Venerable Taiyi).

Xiao Quanyou was weak and frequently ill from childhood; he did not engage in marriage or official careers. Thus, he decided to leave his family and embrace the Dao. He gained great favor from the 5th Patriarch, Dongyingzi, and later succeeded to preside over the Daoist rituals and teachings of Taiyi Dao. First, he was bestowed with the Taoist title "Great Master of Observing Subtleties," and later further granted the title "True Person of Pure Unity." He received profound care and attention from the emperor and the crown prince. In the Yuanzhen era (1296), he founded the Taiyi Jixian Guan (Taiyi Temple of Gathered Immortals) and vigorously promoted the teachings of Taiyi Dao.
