The Primordial Heavenly Venerable’s Scripture on Eliminating Locusts and Insect Pests

The author of this scripture is unknown, and it is believed to have originated during the Tang or Song dynasties.

It consists of one scroll and is included in the Taoist Canon, under the category of "Original Texts" in the Cave Truth Division.

The scripture purports to be a discourse delivered by the Primordial Heavenly Venerable to the Perfected One of the Supreme Ultimate.

It states that because people across the world lacked reverence and faith, locusts and insect pests ran rampant, and floods and droughts became unregulated. The Heavenly Venerable ordered divine generals, divine lords, the Wind Master, the Rain Master, the Thunder God, the Thunder Mother, Dragon Kings, and dragon spirits to descend to the mortal realm to subdue and eliminate the locusts and insect pests, ensuring favorable weather and timely rains. He also exhorted all people in the world to abandon evil and embrace goodness, establish Taoist ritual altars, recite scriptures and hold vegetarian feasts, and report to the deities of the celestial constellations to perform great meritorious deeds, so that the people could live in prosperity and peace.

A eulogy is attached at the end of the text.
