Xiao Yingsou lived during the reign of Emperor Lizong of the Southern Song Dynasty.

He adopted the literary name "Guanfuzi" (Master of Observing Restoration) and held the Taoist title "Shangqing Dadong Xuandu Sanjing Dharma Master" (a high-ranking Taoist ritual master of the Shangqing tradition, associated with the "Great Cavern," "Mysterious Capital," and "Three Visions" esoteric systems).
He authored Yuan Shi Wu Liang Du Ren Shang Pin Miao Jing Nei Yi Zhu (Inner Meaning Annotations on the Supreme Sublime Scripture of the Primordial Lord for Saving Innumerable Beings), a five-volume work. Prefaced to the book is a memorial submitted to the imperial court in the second year of the Baoqing era of Emperor Lizong of the Song Dynasty (1226).

This annotation incorporates the essence of commentaries by four scholars—Yan Dong, Xue Youqi, Cheng Xuanying, and Li Shaowei—to clarify and expound the original scripture’s meaning. Most of the annotations integrate the I Ching trigrams and internal alchemy theories; with extensive citations and references, the work elaborates substantially on the implications of the scripture’s text.
