Xing Hepu
Xing Hepu was a figure of the Tang Dynasty.
In his youth, he advocated the doctrines of Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) and Laozi (core to Taoism) and was skilled in xin suan (mental arithmetic, a traditional Chinese method of calculation often used in divination and astronomy). He could predict a person’s lifespan, as well as their good and bad fortunes, and he always carried a bamboo counting device with him.

During the Kaiyuan era (713–741) of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, he, together with other eminent Taoist masters such as Zhang Guo, Luo Gongyuan, Ye Fashan, and Shen Yuanzhi, collectively promoted and embodied the authentic Taoist spirit of their time.
In the 20th year of the Kaiyuan era (732), he was summoned to the imperial capital by imperial edict. Nobles and high-ranking officials flocked to visit him, making his residence as bustling as a marketplace.
Accounts of his life and deeds can be found in works such as Comprehensive Mirror of Immortals Who Embodied the Dao Through the Ages and Extensive Records of the Taiping Era.
