Xu Lingfu
Xu Lingfu, who lived in the late Tang Dynasty, was a native of Mount Tianmu in Qiantang (now part of Zhejiang Province) and went by the literary name Moxi Zi.
He lived in seclusion and practiced Daoism in the stone chamber at Hutou Rock on Yun’ai Peak of Mount Tiantai. In the fourth year of the Yuanhe era (809 CE), he traveled around Mount Quanheng and Mount Huagai. In the eleventh year of the Yuanhe era (816 CE) [Note: The original text omits the digit for the "tens place" of the year, and "the 11th... year" based on the chronological sequence and common historical records.], he annotated The True Scripture of Tongxuan in twelve volumes.

In the first year of the Huichang era (841 CE), Emperor Wuzong issued an imperial edict to summon him, but Xu Lingfu firmly declined and did not take up the call. Soon after, he passed away.
He authored five works, including Records of Mount Tiantai, Essentials of the Three Grottoes, and The Profound Mirror. His well-known disciple was Zuo Yuanze.
