The Xu Quqian 许去乾

Xu Quqian (1633–?) was a native of Shahe County, Shunde Prefecture (now part of Hebei Province) during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His courtesy name was Juwu, and his literary name was Shouyangzi.

In his childhood, he studied Confucian classics. In his middle age, he passed the provincial imperial examination (to become a juren, a title for successful candidates in the imperial examination system). Later, he went to the capital, where he read books such as Chongbi Jing (The Green Jade Classic), Zhonghe Ji (The Collection of Harmony), and Xianfo Hezong (The Unity of Immortals and Buddhas) by Yuchanzi. After that, he abandoned his study of Confucianism and set out to seek out accomplished masters.

He met Zhu Ligang, who passed on the teachings of the Nanwu Sect to him. Thus, Xu Quqian became the 12th grand master of the sect.
