Xu Shoujing (?-1195) was a native of Pingshui, Jinling (now part of Jiangsu Province) during the Southern Song Dynasty.

He was unable to speak until the age of ten. After taking an elixir prepared by a Taoist priest from Mount Mao, he gained the ability to speak. Following this, he entered Mount Mao and studied under Li Jingying. In the second year of the Longxing era (1161 AD), when Li Jingying passed away, Xu Shoujing succeeded to the ancestral altar (inheriting the leadership of the Taoist lineage).

The imperial court summoned him to the capital on numerous occasions, but Xu Shoujing strictly adhered to the Taoist principles taught by Li Jingying and declined the summons repeatedly.

Whenever the imperial court needed to perform rituals for prayer or to ward off misfortune, it would send envoys to the mountain to conduct the ceremonies under Xu’s guidance, and these rituals often proved to be efficacious.

In the third month of the first year of the Qingyuan era (1195 AD), Xu Shoujing passed away. He was posthumously awarded the title "Mr. Baoning Chongmiao" (Mr. Protecting Peace and Profound Subtlety) and was recognized as the 31st Patriarch of the Shangqing School of Mount Mao.
