Paul PengShare
Xu Xichun was a native of Shaowu (now part of Fujian Province) during the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty.
In the first year of the Xining era of Emperor Shenzong (1068), he met Taoist Tieguan (Taoist Iron Crown) at Wufeng Courtyard. The Taoist gave him Wuhua Grass (Five-Flower Grass) as a gift. From then on, Xu Xichun practiced bigu (a Taoist technique of abstaining from grain) and did not eat ordinary food. He resided at Jinshen Courtyard and dedicated his entire life to Taoist cultivation.
