The Xu Zhigen 徐志根

The Xu Zhigen 徐志根

Paul Peng
Xu Zhigen was a figure during the Jin and Yuan dynasties. His literary name was Dongyangzi.

He studied under Wang Qiyun and became a Taoist monk. In the 23rd year of the Zhiyuan era (1286), he was bestowed the title of "Chongxuan Chengde Dongyang Zhenren" (True Person of Dongyang with Profound Mystery and Sincere Virtue).

Xu Zhigen was resolute, steadfast, and unassuming in speech, yet he persisted in diligent practice without pause. Later, he succeeded Tonghe (a Taoist figure, full name unspecified in the original text) as the abbot of Chaoyuan Palace.
