The Xuan Yuanji 轩辕集
Paul PengShare
Xuan Yuanji was a figure who lived during the Dazhong era of the Tang Dynasty. He resided in seclusion on Mount Luofu and was skilled in health preservation. In the 11th year of the Dazhong era (857), Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty sent envoys to invite him to the imperial capital and asked him about the art of longevity. Xuan Yuanji replied, "Cut off indulgence in sounds and sights, abandon excessive pursuit of tastes, keep emotions of joy and sorrow in balance, and bestow kindness and benefits to all. Naturally, you will align your virtue with heaven and earth, and shine as brightly as the sun and moon. Why would you need other techniques to achieve longevity?"

Later, he firmly requested to return to the mountain.
