The Xue Zhiwei 薛知微

Xue Zhiwei (1151-1232) was a native of Hejin (now part of Jiangzhou, Shanxi Province) during the Jin Dynasty. His courtesy name was Daoyuan, and he styled himself Bibeizi.

In the 11th year of the Dading era (1171), he became a disciple of Ma Danyang and was entrusted with esoteric Taoist teachings by Ma. In the 22nd year of the Dading era (1182), when Ma Danyang returned eastward, Xue Zhiwei stayed at the ancestral Taoist temple (of the Quanzhen Sect) and later traveled around the Songshan and Shaoshi Mountain areas.

In the winter of the 1st year of the Kaixing era (1232), he passed away without illness at the age of 82.

He authored Qingxu Ji (Collection of Quiet Emptiness), which was circulated among the public.

He initiated and instructed hundreds of disciples. After his death, he was posthumously awarded the title "Shengxuan Real Person" (Real Person of Ascending to Mystery).
