The Yang Baozong 杨保宗

The Yang Baozong 杨保宗

Paul Peng
Yang Baozong was a female Taoist priest during the Five Dynasties period.
As recorded in Volume 6 of Later Collection of the Comprehensive Mirror of Immortals Who Attained Dao Through Cultivation in Successive Ages: She left secular life and resided in Chongshan Temple on Shangxiao Peak of Mount Lu. She practiced "queli" (a Taoist practice of abstaining from grain) to refine her physical form, diligently pursued Taoist cultivation with unremitting efforts, and her reputation spread far and wide.
Emperor Yuanzong of the Southern Tang Dynasty issued an imperial edict summoning her to the imperial palace and bestowed upon her a purple-gold lined robe.
