The Yang Taiming 杨泰明

The Yang Taiming 杨泰明

Paul Peng
Yang Taiming (? – 813) lived during the reign of Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty. He was renowned for his filial piety toward his parents, and people of his time called him "Filial Son Yang".
He once served as a retainer in the office of Guo Ziyi, the Prince of Fenyang (a prominent military general and statesman of the Tang Dynasty).
By nature, Yang Taiming was indifferent to fame and fortune, and had no greed for official titles or emoluments. After staying in the military camp for a long time, he changed into Taoist robes in the first year of the Yongtai era of Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty (765), abandoned his official post, and went into seclusion in secret.
He first lived in seclusion on Maoshan Mountain, and later moved to Lushan Mountain, where he built a thatched hut to reside in. There, he practiced the Taoist doctrines and techniques of the Supreme Great Pervasive Scripture. He kept himself away from the mundane world for 36 years.

Yang Taiming passed away in the eighth year of the Yuanhe era of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty (813).
