The Yao Tan 姚坦
Paul PengShare
Yao Tan, styled Yuantai, was a native of Fenshui (present-day Ningwu, Shanxi) during the Spring and Autumn Period.

According to the records in The Stele of Biographies of Louguan's Founding Masters and The Stele Inscription of True Persons, Yao Tan devoted himself to the mysterious Daoist school, living a simple and lofty life. He savored and comprehended the Dao, kept his spirit focused, and held reverence for the noble principles. He lived in seclusion on a quiet bank, secretly practicing Daoist arts.
Later, he was honored as the True Person of Xuanzhou and was in charge of the Baishui Palace.
