Yao Zhuang was a native of Xijing (the Western Capital) during the Five Dynasties period. His courtesy name was Shuqi, and he was also known by the Taoist title "Longguang Daoming Yuanjun" (Lord of Dragon Light and Enlightened Dao).
He studied under Fu Yangjue and inherited the Qingwei Thunder Magic (a core esoteric practice of the Qingwei School of Taoism). He commanded the thunder and lightning, fully conformed to the essential principles of the Dao, and eventually attained the Taoist position of "Santisheng Shijing" (Scripture Attendant of the Three Pure Realms).
