The Ye Cangzhi 叶藏质

The Ye Cangzhi 叶藏质

Paul Peng
Ye Cangzhi, styled Hanxiang, was a native of Songyang in Yuezhou (now part of Zhejiang Province) during the late Tang Dynasty.
He was officially registered as a Taoist priest at Anhe Guan (Anhe Taoist Temple). Later, he went to Tongbai Guan (Tongbai Taoist Temple) on Mount Tiantai, studied under Feng Weiliang, and received the scriptures and talismans of the Three Grottoes (Sandong) of the Shangqing (Supreme Pure) tradition. He built the Shimen Shanju Taoist Abbey on Yubei Peak.

Every day, he recited various Taoist scriptures such as Huangting Jing (Yellow Court Scripture), Duren Jing (Scripture of Delivering People), and Daode Jing (Tao Te Ching). Emperor Yizong summoned him to the imperial court multiple times and granted him residence at Yuxiao Guan (Yuxiao Taoist Temple).

In his later years, he was particularly proficient in talisman techniques, and his practices were quite effective (with notable spiritual responses).

He lived to the age of seventy-four. Ye Cangzhi was the grandson of Ye Fashan (a renowned Taoist master of the Tang Dynasty).
