The Ye Fashan 叶法善

Ye Fashan (616-720) was a native of Kuocang (present-day Lishui, Zhejiang Province) in the Tang Dynasty. His courtesy names were Daoyuan and Taisu, and he was also known as "True Immortal of Luofu".
He became a Taoist priest in his early years, and five generations of his family had been Taoist priests.
Inherited from his family the esoteric Taoist techniques, he was proficient in Yin-Yang divination, Taoist talismans and incantations, subduing ghosts and spirits, as well as practices for nourishing life and treating illnesses. He repeatedly applied his Taoist arts among the people, and all proved highly effective.


He lived through the reigns of Emperor Gaozong, Empress Wu Zetian, and Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty. He was summoned to the imperial palace on numerous occasions to set up altars and conduct Taoist ritual ceremonies (Zhangjiao), and he strongly advocated for suppressing and destroying Buddhism.


In the second year of the Xiantian era of Emperor Ruizong (713 AD), he was granted the title of "Duke of Yue", appointed as Honglu Qing (Director of the Court of State Ceremonies), and concurrently served as the abbot of Jinglong Guan (Jinglong Taoist Temple). In the first month of the sixth year of the Zhenghe era of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty (1116 AD), he was posthumously awarded the title of "Dharma Master Zhixu Jiansu".


In the sixth month of the second year of the Xuanhe era (1120 AD), he was further posthumously conferred the title of "True Immortal Lingxu Jiansu".
