The Yiqi Xuanjie 伊祁玄解
Paul PengShare
Yiqi Xuanjie was a Taoist priest during the reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty.
As recorded in Mirror of the Dao: Biographies of Immortals Through the Ages, Volume 32: "Xuanjie had white hair like a crane’s but a face as youthful as a child’s. He often rode a yellow mare, wandering between the Qingzhou and Yanzhou regions. He did not eat the five grains (rice, wheat, millet, sorghum, and beans—staple grains in ancient China) and subsisted solely on 'cloud qi' (a Taoist concept referring to ethereal vital energy from nature).

When Emperor Xianzong heard of him, he summoned Xuanjie to the imperial court. Xuanjie planted 'divine herbs' in front of the palace hall; the emperor took these herbs, and they proved highly effective (in nourishing health or healing, as implied by the context)."
