The Yu Beng 余楍

Paul Peng
Yu Beng was a native of Qingshen, Sichuan, living during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

His courtesy name was Shengsheng, and his literary name was Dun'an.

As recorded in Jinli Xinbian (New Compilations of the Brocade City), he was a descendant of Lord Sumin, the Grand Minister of War of the Ming Dynasty. His family had been hereditary commanders of a thousand-household garrison. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, he became a Taoist Priest, took refuge from the chaos in the regions east of the Yangtze River, and made a living by selling his poems and essays.

He called himself "Master of the Plum Blossoms" and was an intimate friend of Zhu Taikong, the abbot of Qionghua Temple in Jiangdu.

He passed away at Qionghua Temple in the 24th year of the Kangxi reign (1685) at the age of 79.

Paul Peng is a Zhengyi Taoist priest from Longhu Mountain, Jiangxi — the ancestral home of the Celestial Masters' tradition. Ordained at 25 after a dream from the Celestial Master, he has practiced for 25 years under Master Zeng Guangliang. He is one of the curators of this store, which is officially authorized by Tianshi Fu. All items are consecrated at the temple by the resident priest team.
