Yu Fang was a native of Shimen, Zhejiang Province during the Qing Dynasty.
His courtesy name was Xingyuan, and he was officially registered at the County Temple. He was renowned in his hometown and the surrounding prefectures for his calligraphy and painting, with ink orchid paintings being his greatest forte.
